Personal Effects of a Drug Addiction
We are constantly being told that drug use is damaging not only to our bodies, but to society as a whole - but unfortunately many people still continue to use drugs regardless of this medicinal advice. As much as we love to disagree with research and the authorities, on this topic they have got their facts right - drug abuse is indeed a bad thing.
But how? What is it that makes drug addiction so bad - even if you are not affecting anyone else by your actions? In this article, we will take a look at the reasons why drug addiction causes major harm to your body - and also touch on the wider effects of drug addiction, i.e. the effects on society.
Effects of Drug Addiction on the Body
Obviously, there are a number of avenues of affect where drug addictions can force unwanted changes within the body. Let's take a look at a few of those:
- Brain and neural pathways.
- Organ function.
- Physical functioning (i.e. athletic performance, etc).
- Muscle breakdown and tissue breakdown.
Obviously, if you take drugs on a regular basis, you will know that the effects on the brain are the most pronounced. For example, following the inhalation of marijuana - the brain goes on a "high" whilst the drug takes effect.
However, this change may not actually be the most dangerous of those pointed out above. There are actually a few changes which could lead to permanent damage - and unfortunately, they are the hidden ones.
Dangerous Drug Addiction Changes
Of all the changes which take place in the body following the consumption of drug, changes to the organ function and processing power and definitely the most dangerous.
This is because any changes in this area can cause flow on changes to other parts of the body. For example, one of the proven side effects of cocaine use is that if you consume it for too long, you liver becomes much more inefficient at processing bodily waste, because it is working so hard to process the cocaine out of the system.
This is just one example of many where the physical changes can have a vast impact on the human body - and indeed cause major issues in the long run from drug addiction.
