Breaking a Drug Addiction - It doesn't have to be Difficult
Unfortunately, by their very nature, drug addiction is looked upon as being a very difficult chain to break. Once someone gets started with drugs, and allows that particular drug to rule their world, breaking the bonds (and more importantly breaking the psychological dependence) can be one of the hardest accomplishments of one's life.
Interestingly, however, recent research has suggested that if people really put their mind to it - breaking a drug addiction can become surprisingly easy - with the right support and tools at hand.
In this article, we will take a look at what tools you will need, and how much support you will need (and from whom) to ensure success with a drug addiction therapy. It would be safe to say at this point that rehab facilities and weaning off the drug are completely unnecessary. Read on to find out more.
Drug Addiction Therapy Is Somewhat Pointless
Let's face it - even if you try to give counselling to someone who has been addicted to drugs for the last 5 years - the decider as to whether they do indeed give up is not what the counsellor says, but instead what the individual thinks.
In this sense, the main features of a drug addiction are:
- A psychological dependence on the drug.
- No desire to give up the drug whatsoever.
- A physical dependence on the drug.
Of course, if someone has a dependence on the drug, they are going to need more than a simple counselling session to convince them that the drug addiction is bad for them. In fact, in many cases, drug counselling will be a complete waste of time in these instances.
The same goes for someone who really has no desire to give up or break the addiction. If, after all, they are happy taking the drugs, and they do not care whether the drugs are doing damage to their body or not - they will continue to take them no matter what you say or do.
Rehabilitation is a Better Drug Addiction Technique
That leads us to conclude that if someone's drug addiction is minor (in other words it does not facilitate rehab admission) - the best thing to do is to give them a natural product which is able to wean them off the drug. Alternatively, weaning of the actual drug itself is a valid idea.
